Texas Longhorns defensive standout Colin Simmons will likely miss Saturday’s showdown against the seventh-ranked Ole Miss Rebels after aggravating a high ankle sprain. Reports indicate Simmons, the team’s leading sack artist with 10.5 this season, is considered week-to-week and could be sidelined for three to four weeks.
His absence adds pressure to a Texas defense already struggling, as the Longhorns have lost two of their last three games following a 4-0 start. Simmons has been a dominant force in his three-year career, accumulating 31.5 career sacks and eight forced fumbles, but his injury could further complicate Texas’s season.
The game, a key SEC matchup, tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Ole Miss enters the contest as the nation’s top defensive unit, while Texas, now ranked No. 19, seeks to reverse its recent slide.
Simmons’s injury compounds the Longhorns’ challenges, as they’ll need to replace his production against a formidable Rebel offense led by quarterback Arch Manning. The loss of their top pass rusher could shift the balance in a game already tilted toward the Rebels.
