Coco Gauff Didn’t Cheat, But Tennis Made It Look Like She Did

Coco Gauff faced online criticism after utilizing a video review during her 7-5, 6-1 win against Sun Xinran at the China Open. Gauff requested a replay after losing a point when an LED advertising board shifted during play, leading officials to rule a hindrance.

While the decision allowed Gauff to replay the point and eventually dominate the match, critics argue the current rules permit players to continue rallies and only seek reviews if they lose the point. Similar concerns were raised by Novak Djokovic regarding a separate incident involving Alexander Zverev in Beijing.
