Novak Djokovic’s latest comments labelled as a ‘bad sign’ for Frances Tiafoe as he reaches the final in Beijing

Novak Djokovic advanced to the championship match at the China Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals, having previously eliminated Alexander Zverev. Now facing Alex de Minaur for the title, the veteran contender has also made clear his intention to compete in the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin.

That stated ambition prompted former professionals Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson to warn on a podcast that American competitors such as Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, and Tommy Paul face a tougher path to qualification. Following those remarks, Jannik Sinner withdrew from the remainder of the season due to an injury, opening up a spot in the year-end tournament.
