History was made during a Ranji Trophy plate group match on Monday as Mizoram representative Chinmay Sutar achieved an extraordinary milestone by crossing four hundred runs in a single red-ball innings against Nagaland. Needing five hundred and seventeen deliveries to reach the mark, the athlete entered an exclusive group of players by becoming just the tenth batter in cricket history to reach this incredible scoring threshold.
This phenomenal performance also places him as only the second Indian cricketer to surpass four hundred runs in first-class competition, following Bhausahab Babasaheb Nimbalkar's legendary unbroken knock of four hundred and forty-three back in nineteen forty-eight.
Such a massive individual accomplishment places the batter alongside some of the sport's most legendary historical achievements. The record books for first-class cricket remain headed by Brian Lara, who registered an unbeaten five hundred and one for Warwickshire in nineteen ninety-four before later adding an undefeated four hundred in international play against England a decade later.
Another legendary near-miss in the record books belongs to Hanif Mohammed, who was dismissed just one run shy of five hundred while representing Karachi during a nineteen fifty-nine fixture against Bahawalpur.
