Change of heart? Rohit Sharma’s innocuous ‘October 2027’ comment sparks new ODI future wave of speculation

Speaking at an event in Mumbai on Thursday, Rohit Sharma addressed inquiries regarding his potential participation in the 50-over World Cup scheduled for southern Africa in October 2027 by noting that the date remains distant and decisions will await that timeframe. The thirty-nine-year-old top-order batter lost the national ODI leadership following an undefeated run to the Champions Trophy crown in Dubai last March, giving way to Shubman Gill alongside coach Gautam Gambhir, while chief selector Ajit Agarkar has offered no definitive updates.

Rumors had previously mounted that July's match at Lord's would mark Rohit's final international appearance, prompting BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia to publicly clarify that the veteran's career was continuing, a point Saikia reaffirmed in Mumbai following a review session that Agarkar did not attend. Rohit answered those exit rumors the following day by scoring a century at Lord's, and the Mumbai native is also set to make his prime-time television debut hosting a reality program titled Family Full House with Rohit Sharma starting this coming Saturday.
