Carlos Alcaraz has now overtaken Jannik Sinner and leads the ATP Tour in key statistic in 2026

Carlos Alcaraz has moved ahead of Jannik Sinner to top the ATP Tour in a key 2026 statistic, overtaking the Italian after Sinner announced he will miss the rest of the season with a physical issue. The shift comes as Alcaraz suffered a surprising third‑round loss to Zizou Bergs at the Shanghai Masters, a defeat that helped Alexander Zverev clinch the year‑end world No.

1 ranking.

Zverev’s ascent to the top spot marks the first time a German has finished a calendar year as the men’s world number one, while Sinner’s injury means he is not expected back on tour until 2027. The combination of Alcaraz’s unexpected exit and Sinner’s absence reshaped the late‑season rankings, leaving Zverev in command as the season concludes.
