Los Angeles gave away another winnable game, falling 23-17 to Denver at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, October 11, 2026. A disastrous final period wiped out a third-quarter advantage, dropping the home side to 0-5 while lifting the visitors to 3-2.
Denver took advantage of repeated mistakes by the host offense, leaning on critical takeaways rather than sustained drives to complete a 13-0 run down the stretch.
The turning point came when the visitors erased a 17-10 Los Angeles lead with 13 unanswered points in the final frame. Head coach Jim Harbaugh chose to keep his offense on the field on fourth-and-1 from their own 41-yard line with roughly 10 minutes left on the clock.
Justin Herbert was stuffed for no gain, handing Denver ideal field position. Quarterback Bo Nix quickly capitalized, finding Courtland Sutton for the tying touchdown pass before defensive pressure closed out the victory.
Herbert's season turnover tally reached nine as late mistakes derailed the comeback attempt. Following the failed fourth down and Denver's score, defensive lineman D.J.
Jones forced a fumble by Herbert on the next series. Later, safety Brandon Jones intercepted Herbert to snuff out any further push.
Denver converted both fourth-quarter turnovers into field goals, mirroring the opening quarter when safety Talanoa Hufanga stripped Chargers tight end Charlie Kolar of the ball on the first possession of the game, setting up J.K. Dobbins for an early score.
The entire Los Angeles offense produced just 74 yards all afternoon, going 1-of-6 on third-down conversions. Denver fared little better on moving the chains, finishing 1-of-12 on third downs and managing 95 yards in the second half, with Bo Nix completing 10 of 16 passes for 82 yards and J.K.
Dobbins gaining 24 yards across 10 rushes. In fact, Denver failed to record a single first down on any possession not set up by a Chargers turnover.
Sean Payton returned to calling offensive plays for the Broncos but did not show a major improvement in the unit’s performance, while Jim Harbaugh resisted making changes to the offensive coordinator role.
The tally reveals two sputtering units, but Denver's opportunism decided the contest. Los Angeles now faces a difficult matchup against the well-rested 4-0 Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday, needing answers before their winless start slips entirely out of control.
