The Vancouver Canucks completed a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, sending center Aatu Räty to Toronto in exchange for two forwards, Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan. Räty, a 23-year-old who had been a healthy scratch multiple times this season, cleared waivers before the deal.
The Canucks’ return includes Buhr, a 24-year-old who finished his NCAA career at Union College last season, averaging over a point per game. Buhr, who made his AHL debut with the Marlies last year, is known for his physical play and strong skating, standing at 6 feet 2 inches and 205 pounds.
Quillan, also 24, has NHL experience, having played 24 games for the Leafs with one goal and two assists. The forward, who won a Calder Cup with Toronto in 2026, projects as a bottom-six player with speed and a physical style.
Both Buhr and Quillan were in minor-league roles prior to the trade, with Buhr in the ECHL and Quillan with the Marlies in the AHL.
