The New York Rangers have bolstered their goaltending situation by signing veteran James Reimer to a professional tryout agreement with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League. With starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin sidelined for the season and backup Joonas Korpisalo expected to miss at least a month due to a lower-body injury, the Rangers faced a critical shortage of netminders at both the NHL and AHL levels.
The move comes after Dylan Garand and Spencer Martin were recalled from the Wolf Pack, leaving only Callum Tung and Gabriel Carriere to cover the position. Reimer, a 38-year-old with 16 seasons of NHL experience across eight teams, most recently played for the Ottawa Senators last season, posting a 7-4-2 record, a .886 save percentage, and a 2.42 goals-against average.
His arrival provides the Rangers with an experienced option to stabilize the crease until Korpisalo’s return, if the team opts to activate him instead of Martin.
