Buchtel-Firestone football game called at halftime due to off-field fights

Akron school district authorities prematurely halted a high school gridiron matchup between local rivals Buchtel and Firestone during the intermission on Friday evening, October second. Spectator bickering that erupted within the stands and subsequently spilled outward prompted athletic administrators to terminate the contest out of an abundance of caution regarding facility safety.

At the moment officials opted to halt proceedings, Buchtel held a commanding twenty-to-nothing lead, which secured them an official victory since the remainder of the contest was cancelled entirely rather than postponed. Local law enforcement vehicles alongside an emergency medical transport responded to the venue during the stoppage, though officials confirmed zero arrests or medical incidents by late evening.

District athletic coordinator Tom McKinnon explained that clearing the premises entirely served as the most secure course of action for all participants and attendees.
