After just four weeks, the Denver Broncos have reversed course on their offensive play-calling structure, bringing back Sean Payton to reclaim the role he relinquished at the start of the 2026 season. Davis Webb, who had been entrusted with the play-calling duties since February, will now share a more collaborative approach with Payton, though the head coach will retain the final call on game-day decisions.
The Broncos sit at 2-2 entering Week 5, facing a 0-4 Los Angeles Chargers team in a divisional showdown. The shift follows a coaching staff overhaul earlier this year, including the firing of offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi in January, which paved the way for Webb’s promotion from quarterbacks coach.
Payton had initially expressed confidence in Webb’s ability to handle the responsibility, but the team’s early struggles appear to have prompted the change.
