Braves RHP Lopez on IL with shoulder inflammation

Atlanta Braves pitcher Reynaldo Lopez has landed on the 15-day injured list to deal with inflammation in his right shoulder. 44 WHIP across 79⅓ frames split between 13 starting nods and 13 relief outings.

His IL placement follows a difficult performance during Monday's 7-3 defeat against the Chicago Cubs, in which he surrendered five runs across three innings. Lopez previously missed time between July 26 and Sept.

91 ERA while conceding 11 runs in 7⅔ innings. Manager Walt Weiss expressed optimism that brief downtime will allow the veteran to recover his peak form.

Lopez's absence swells Atlanta's injured list to seven pitchers, joining Bryce Elder, Joe Jiménez, Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider, Robert Suarez, and Joey Wentz. 50 ERA over 14 appearances for the big league club this year.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Jiménez is commencing a rehab stint at Gwinnett following a layoff extending back to 2024, while Suarez is scheduled for a bullpen workout on Thursday.
