South African sprinter Sinesipho Dambile is embracing the high expectations that come with being likened to track legend Usain Bolt. The 24-year-old, who secured Commonwealth gold in Birmingham this July, credits a meeting with the Jamaican icon in Tokyo for his current mindset.
Dambile recently clocked a 19.74-second 200m in Doha and intends to expand his focus to include the 100m event. He distinguishes his own understated, crowd-engaging style from the more theatrical approach of Noah Lyles.
His recent rise includes a second-place finish in the Brussels Diamond League final and a 4x100m relay victory in Guangzhou alongside Bayanda Walaza, Bradley Nkoana, and Akani Simbine.
