Bills news: Assessing Buffalo’s secondary after 3-1 start

Following a 29-26 defeat against the New England Patriots, the Buffalo Bills sit at a 3-1 record while defensive back Maxwell Hairston faces heavy scrutiny for his performance. Hairston struggled in one-on-one coverage against Romeo Doubs, yielding multiple touchdown passes and critical fourth-down conversions before declining to speak with reporters immediately following the contest.

Beyond Hairston, coordinator Jim Leonhard's defense has encountered communication breakdowns and difficulties executing crucial stops. Pro Football Focus grades indicate that Hairston, Christian Benford, and Dee Alford rank among the least effective pass-coverage cornerbacks in the NFL early in the campaign.

Hairston has since accepted accountability for his execution and aims to rebound when the squad faces Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams.
