Ravichandran Ashwin believes the recall of Bhuvneshwar Kumar for India's upcoming T20I series against New Zealand indicates that Mohammed Shami remains in consideration for national selection. Bhuvneshwar earned his place following a successful IPL campaign in which he claimed 28 wickets during his franchise's title defense.
The veteran fast bowler rejoins the squad for the five-match fixture starting October 24, as Jasprit Bumrah receives a rest. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed to lead the sixteen-player group.
Ashwin noted that selectors are prioritizing veteran presence to stabilize the bowling unit in Bumrah's absence, suggesting Shami's path back to international play is still viable.
