Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez have dismissed claims that a gathering of four Aprilia riders at Phillip Island was intended to discuss team orders. While Aprilia has stated such directives will only be used once riders are mathematically eliminated from the title race, Fernandez is the only one who could potentially face that scenario after Sunday.
The pair described the meeting as a casual coffee chat rather than a formal strategy session.
This comes after a dominant Aprilia performance at Mandalika, where the RS-GP finished in the top four. Despite this, Jorge Martin remained only two points ahead of Marc Marquez after Bezzecchi won and Fernandez took second, while Martin finished third.
Some argued Fernandez, who was dealing with a broken finger and trailing Martin by over 100 points, should have let the title leader pass. Bezzecchi currently trails Martin by 46 points with 185 available, while Ai Ogura is 96 behind and Fernandez is 119 adrift.
