The Chicago Bears will have to adjust their defensive plans for the next two weeks after starting defensive end Montez Sweat was suspended without pay for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. The league announced the penalty, which applies to Sweat’s upcoming matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots, marking his absence from the lineup for the first time since joining the Bears via trade from Washington last season.
Sweat, who has been a consistent presence on the field this year, has already recorded two sacks in five starts and accounted for nearly 70% of the Bears’ defensive snaps before the suspension. His return is expected in Week 8, when the team faces the Seattle Seahawks on *Monday Night Football*.
