The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has pushed back the IPL player retention deadline by two days, now setting it for **November 17, 2026**, instead of the original **November 15**. The adjustment was made to avoid scheduling conflicts with the fifth and final ODI of the **India-New Zealand series**, which is set to take place at **Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui** on the earlier date.
Franchises were notified of the change on **November 2**, granting them extra time to finalize retained player lists before submission to the BCCI. The IPL mini-auction, still planned for **December 16 in Goa**, remains unaffected by the shift, though a similar scheduling overlap exists with the second ODI of India’s home series against Sri Lanka on the same day at **M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru**—though no changes to the auction date have been announced yet.
Teams must submit their final retention lists by **November 17**, with the player registration window closing on **November 23**. Franchises will then have until **December 1** to finalize their auction selections, and the BCCI will release the official auction register on **December 3**.
The extended deadline provides a buffer for stakeholders, ensuring administrative tasks are completed without interference from international fixtures.
