Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback Baker Mayfield sustained an injury to his throwing hand during the closing moments of a Week 3 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The signal-caller took a hit while releasing a pass under heavy defensive pressure, causing his right thumb to bend unnaturally.
Medical personnel attended to him on the field before he walked off and headed directly to the medical tent for evaluation.
With the starter sidelined, undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels took over under center for the final possession, throwing an interception on a late Hail Mary attempt that sealed a 23-16 defeat for Tampa Bay. Prior to his exit, Mayfield had accumulated 217 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, alongside six yards on the ground.
