Austin Reaves’ gushing Victor Wembanyama praise rubs Lakers fans wrong

Lakers guard Austin Reaves sparked controversy among fans by publicly praising San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama in a recent NBA video feature. When asked who deserved recognition, Reaves singled out Wemby, calling the accolades he’s already earned fully justified—a choice that baffled many Lakers supporters, especially given Wembanyama’s status as a Western Conference rival.

The backlash intensified as fans questioned why Reaves would highlight a player whose future achievements would directly impact the Lakers’ success, particularly ahead of their first matchup on November 27. Meanwhile, Wembanyama continues to dominate media attention, making Reaves’ endorsement seem out of place for someone who should be championing underrated talent instead.

The preseason games have already set the stage for a high-stakes regular-season showdown, with Reaves now facing the challenge of proving his loyalty to Lakers fans when the two teams collide.
