Astros take AL West to become first division champ without winning record in MLB history

Houston has clinched the American League West crown despite finishing the regular season at an even eight-one and eight-one. The club secured the divisional title after Texas fell to Minnesota, followed immediately by a shutout victory over Oakland.

This marks the initial instance in league history where a division winner finished with a record at or below five hundred. General manager Dana Brown previously lost his position during August amidst a turbulent campaign for the franchise.

Under current postseason formatting, the squad enters the playoffs as the third seed and will match up against the Chicago White Sox in the opening round.
