As Rohit Sharma plays on, what's next for Yashasvi Jaiswal?

Despite holding the IPL benchmark for the quickest half-century scored in 13 balls and playing all 31 Test matches since his debut century in July 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal finds his limited-overs opportunities constrained. In T20 cricket, the 24-year-old Rajasthan Royals left-hander faces competition from 15-year-old teammate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has threatened Jaiswal's record by hitting 15-ball fifties on three occasions.

Consequently, Jaiswal has appeared in only 23 of India's 88 T20Is since his August 2023 bow, even after outshining Jos Buttler in the IPL.

In 50-over cricket, Jaiswal has logged two centuries across six appearances out of a possible 23 since his February 2025 debut, remaining largely benched behind 39-year-old Rohit Sharma. Rohit's continued role created friction with selectors who favored a transition, though he recently struck a hundred at Lord's.
