Jon Rahm’s abrupt departure from LIV Golf 2.0 has reignited the PGA Tour’s unresolved dilemma: how to reintegrate players who left for the rival league. Rahm, a two-time major champion, announced his exit this week, citing unacceptable contract terms, and follows Sergio Garcia, Adrian Meronk, and David Puig in abandoning LIV amid its bankruptcy proceedings.
The PGA Tour previously offered a one-time “Returning Members Program” in January, extending invitations to Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith—only Koepka accepted. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has since ruled out reviving that program, insisting any return would require players to fully sever their LIV obligations.
With LIV’s legal restructuring accelerating, the question of whether—and how—defectors like Rahm can reclaim their PGA Tour status remains unanswered, leaving the tour’s future membership landscape in flux.
