The Los Angeles Angels have dismissed manager Kurt Suzuki following a 62-100 campaign that marked the franchise's first-ever 100-loss season. Baseball operations consultant John Mozeliak confirmed the decision on Wednesday, noting that the club will decline the option on Suzuki's contract and begin searching for a new leader for the 2027 season.
Suzuki, who finished his 16-year playing career with the team in 2022, has been offered a role as a special assistant, while Mozeliak stated that the poor record did not accurately reflect the manager's capabilities.
The move was made in coordination with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which is in the process of buying controlling ownership from Arte Moreno. This transition follows the earlier dismissal of general manager Perry Minasian, who had hired Suzuki after three seasons as his special assistant.
The Angels now face their eleventh consecutive losing season and twelfth straight year without a playoff berth, joining the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros as AL West teams currently without a manager.
