To mark its centennial, Stow Acres Country Club is charging just two quarters for nine holes of golf on its South Course. This limited-time promotion, which runs through Thursday, replicates the pricing found on a vintage sign discovered at the property.
General manager David Carlson also reconfigured the layout to mirror the course's original 1920s design, including shorter yardages and temporary greens. Although the club is sacrificing significant revenue, the event has successfully attracted many new visitors to the historic facility.
The club, which opened in 1926 as Mapledale Country Club, holds historical significance as one of the first Black-owned and operated golf courses in the United States, having hosted the National Black Men’s Championship during its early years.
