2026 WNBA All-Star admits she was ‘ready to quit’ the league

Dallas Wings standout Jessica Shepard recently shared that she contemplated stepping away from professional basketball entirely around 2024 following a difficult stint with Minnesota. Opting to prioritize her physical health, mental wellbeing, and financial stability over a swift return under league prioritization mandates, she chose to fulfill an overseas contract in Italy instead.

During a discussion with Sue Bird, the forward noted how close she was to quitting before her coach intervened and encouraged her to try one more year abroad. That decision sparked a remarkable career rebirth, leading to averages of 14.3 points, nearly 11 rebounds, and five assists per night during a stellar 2026 campaign that culminated in her debut WNBA All-Star game selection.
