Former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra has shared how being excluded from the national squad was a significant mental health struggle. He experienced an 18-month period of depression following his 2003 international debut, as he struggled to deal with the unexpected loss of of his place in the team and his exclusion from domestic competitions like the Duleep Trophy and India A.
He eventually found clarity after a selector's feedback, which helped him shift his focus from the only goal of returning to the national side to improving his domestic performance. This shift in approach allowed him to earn a return to the Indian team in 2008, after which he he'd eventually go on to play 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is, claiming 156 total wickets.
