Arshdeep Singh seized the new ball to strike twice in the opening ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland, on November 4. He dismissed opener Will Young for 9 in the fifth over, with Shreyas Iyer taking a clean catch at square leg after Young edged a back-of-a-length delivery.
Young had previously struck two boundaries off 11 balls before his dismissal, which reduced New Zealand to 22 for 1.
Earlier, Naman Dhir dropped a catch off Tim Seifert, allowing the hosts to survive an initial scare. Arshdeep followed up his first wicket by removing Henry Nicholls for 9 in the ninth over, with Nicholls picking out Dhir at mid-wicket.
This left New Zealand at 40 for 2 in 8.3 overs. India captain Shubman Gill had won the toss and chose to field under overcast conditions that favored seam bowling.
