The Atlanta Dream’s push to host WNBA Finals games at State Farm Arena has hit a snag, leaving the team—led by star Angel Reese—with a less-than-ideal alternative. Due to scheduling conflicts, including two Atlanta Hawks regular-season games and a concert, the Dream will now play Games 3, 4, and 6 (if needed) at Gateway Center Arena, which seats just 3,500 fans, far below the 17,000-capacity State Farm Arena.
The decision has sparked outrage among fans and observers, who question the optics of a Finals matchup against the Golden State Valkyries in a significantly smaller venue. Some have called for rescheduling the Hawks’ games to free up State Farm, while others criticized the league and team ownership for failing to secure a more suitable location.
Reese and the Dream, who have remained undefeated in the playoffs, swept the Washington Mystics and New York Liberty en route to the Finals, but the arena dilemma risks overshadowing their historic run.
