The Atlanta Dream’s long-awaited return to the WNBA Finals after a 13-year absence is facing an unexpected hurdle: a severely limited home-court capacity for their championship series. Despite the team’s growing popularity—highlighted by a 400% surge in season ticket sales over the past five years—they will host Games 3 and 4 against the Golden State Valkyries in Gateway Center Arena, which holds just 3,500 fans.
The larger State Farm Arena, with a capacity exceeding 17,000, has been used for six regular-season and three postseason games this year, but scheduling conflicts with the Atlanta Hawks’ NBA season prevent its use for the Finals. Additionally, Game 3 clashes with a major concert at Gateway Center, further restricting fan access.
While the Dream secured a multi-year deal to move all home games to State Farm Arena starting next season, the current Finals setup has drawn criticism from WNBA journalists, who argue the team and its supporters deserve a more fitting venue for such a historic moment.
