South Carolina’s SEC struggles took a dramatic turn as the Gamecocks stormed into No. 16 Florida’s home turf and handed the Gators their first loss of the season, 38–19.
The victory snapped an eight-game SEC losing streak for coach Shane Beamer’s program, which had entered the year with just one SEC win and faced mounting fan criticism after a 3–3 start. LaNorris Sellers led the charge with five total touchdowns—four passes and a rushing score—while the offense finally broke through in the third quarter, a phase where South Carolina had previously faltered in all three prior SEC games.
The win also marked the Gamecocks’ first victory in Gainesville since 2014, ending a stretch where they had lost three straight, including a heartbreaking overtime defeat to Kentucky just days earlier.
Beamer, who had addressed fan frustration following the Kentucky loss, framed the Florida win as a turning point. “Two and three is not good enough,” he admitted earlier in the week, acknowledging the pressure.
By Saturday, however, the student section’s shift from “Fire Beamer” chants to roaring “Beamer Ball” celebrations reflected the team’s renewed momentum. With an open week ahead, the Gamecocks now look to build on their first SEC win of the season, though the path forward remains steep after a slow start to conference play.
