Former SportsCenter anchor Linda Cohn sparked significant controversy after arguing on her YouTube program that early resale listings for the Atlanta Dream's WNBA Finals games do not justify comparing Angel Reese's marketability to that of Caitlin Clark. Cohn contended that a small number of high-priced inventory items on secondary markets is an unreliable metric for gauging true demand, noting that sellers can list items at any price without it reflecting actual value.
She emphasized that Clark's influence on the league is supported by broader indicators such as television ratings, merchandise sales, and sustained attendance figures, whereas Reese's impact should be evaluated over a full season rather than a single playoff series.
The criticism came as the Dream, who are three victories away from their first franchise title, relocated Games 3 and 4 of the Finals from the 3,500-capacity Gateway Center Arena to the 17,000-seat State Farm Arena. While initial presale data showed a $201 entry price for Game 3, a record for the tournament, public sale prices subsequently dropped to $96 for that game and $114 for Game 4.
Fans and media figures, including Sara Jane Gamelli, quickly pushed back against Cohn's remarks, with many accusing her of diminishing Reese's achievements and questioning why the former ESPN personality seemed bothered by the forward's rising profile.
