India opening batter Abhishek Sharma has emphasized his responsibility to mentor fifteen-year-old debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and help the teenager settle into the international squad. Sharma noted that the young partner already possesses great maturity and work ethic from his time in professional domestic circuits, while senior teammates view him as a younger sibling who belongs at the highest level.
Sooryavanshi earned his spot following a prolific run of form, which included setting a List A record with the fastest fifty off eleven balls in June 2026 and securing the Orange Cap after scoring 776 runs during the Indian Premier League campaign for the Rajasthan Royals. The pair subsequently combined at the top of the order during the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, where the team secured a gold medal.
