Nebraska’s 17-20 loss to Indiana on Saturday extended the Cornhuskers’ losing streak against ranked opponents to 31 games, marking their longest such drought in program history. The Huskers led by 11 points with 12 minutes left but collapsed in the fourth quarter, surrendering two quick touchdown passes from quarterback Josh Hoover to receiver Nick Marsh.
Nebraska’s Anthony Colandrea, who had broken a 39-yard touchdown run earlier, saw his team’s defense misdiagnose Indiana’s personnel on a critical fourth-down play, allowing Marsh to score from the 44-yard line. Indiana’s late surge included 14 unanswered points, with Hoover finishing 12-of-22 for 263 yards and Marsh hauling in six catches for 187 yards.
Head coach Matt Rhule admitted frustration over the turnover on downs and the missed timeout opportunity, calling the loss a setback in a season where Nebraska had dominated possession and third-down conversion. The defeat also dropped Rhule to 0-10 against ranked teams in four years at Nebraska, a program that hasn’t beaten a top-ranked opponent since 2016.
