Michal Postava enjoyed a memorable NHL debut for the Detroit Red Wings, backstopping the team to a 4-3 shootout victory against the Edmonton Oilers. Filling in for the injured Daniil Tarasov, the rookie netminder stopped 25 shots during regulation and overtime before successfully denying Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in the shootout.
Postava joins Petr Mrazek and Jimmy Howard as one of the few Red Wings goalies to win their first career start in the last quarter-century. Coach Todd McLellan praised the performance, noting that the organization had high expectations for the goaltender based on his previous work in the American Hockey League.
Viktor Arvidsson and Emmitt Finnie also contributed goals to the comeback effort.
