‘He’ll Get an Opportunity’ — Willie McGinest Explains What Shedeur Sanders Must Do to Earn Browns’ QB Job

Willie McGinest recently addressed the status of Shedeur Sanders within the Cleveland Browns organization. While the rookie quarterback remains behind starter Deshaun Watson, who has guided the team to a 4-2 record during the 2026 season, McGinest emphasized that Sanders must prove his capability through practice performance rather than relying on his family name.

Because Sanders was a fifth-round selection, he lacks the immediate pressure of a high-draft-pick starter, but he must demonstrate command of the offense to earn a promotion. McGinest noted that internal team evaluations regarding leadership and preparation are the primary factors that will eventually determine if Sanders receives a chance to lead the offense.
