Abhishek Sharma delivered a historic performance during the third fixture of the T20I series against New Zealand at Wellington, propelling his side to an unassailable three-nil lead. The left-handed batter smashed one hundred thirteen runs from only thirty-eight deliveries, featuring eleven maximums and nine boundaries, which successfully chased down a target of one hundred ninety-nine in just 13.2 overs with six wickets in hand.
This knock marked his fourth international century in the format and established the highest individual total by an Indian player during a successful run chase. Additionally, the touring side recorded one hundred eighteen runs in the powerplay, setting a new benchmark for the highest powerplay total in men's T20 Internationals.
Dinesh Karthik subsequently praised the batter, dismissing concerns regarding his struggles against off-spin bowling and labeling him the premier opening batter globally following his aggressive approach against Michael Bracewell.
