Rishabh Pant recently discussed his current absence from India's fifty-over lineup, noting that external observers often share critiques too easily while athletes navigate rigorous daily challenges. Having last appeared in an ODI on August 7, 2024, the wicketkeeper-batter has totaled 871 runs across 31 matches in the format, featuring a top score of an unbeaten 125 against England in 2022 as his sole century alongside five fifties.
Pant acknowledged feeling hurt by the setback but remains determined to mount a comeback.
His path back to the squad faces steep competition following an accident that forced him to miss a year of professional action, including the 2023 World Cup. During his absence, KL Rahul cemented his role as the primary wicketkeeper, while Ishan Kishan and Dhruv Jurel also climbed ahead in the national selection hierarchy.
Although Pant was recently named captain of the Rest of India team for the Irani Cup fixture, he continues aiming for a return to the international limited-overs setup.
