Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has urged national selectors to maintain squad stability rather than making last-minute adjustments ahead of the October 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. With veteran stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having stepped aside from other international formats, questions persist regarding their participation as India aims to capture a third 50-over world championship following their runner-up finish in 2023.

Speaking to Cricinfo, the 2011 tournament champion emphasized that management must identify a core group of 16 to 20 cricketers and provide them ample pitch time, particularly since the modern calendar features relatively few 50-over fixtures compared to T20 matches.

Yuvraj noted that previous Indian tournament stumbles frequently stemmed from drastic squad overhauls right before major competitions. Pointing to the successful, settled planning that yielded consecutive T20 World Cup crowns in 2024 and 2026, he advised the team to place unwavering faith in their chosen players through both triumphs and slumps.

He recommended targeting a preliminary semifinal berth in 2027 before focusing on the decisive knockout rounds, maintaining that continuity remains essential for claiming the title.
