Former college football coach Nick Saban recently explained that his retirement in January 2024 was driven by his age of seventy-two and a desire to spend time with his family rather than frustration with the modern athletic landscape involving the transfer portal and name, image, and likeness compensation. During an appearance on an ESPN program hosted by Mike Greenberg, the retired Alabama leader maintained that his decision was final.
However, former linebacker Su’a Cravens publicly challenged these assertions on social media, pointing out that Saban continues to maintain an active travel schedule as an analyst for College GameDay and has actively campaigned for legislative changes regarding the sport. Saban has been promoting the Protect College Sports Act, which cleared the United States Senate in late September.
