Denver improved its record to two wins against one loss following a tight Sunday evening victory over Los Angeles. During the closing moments of the fourth period, quarterback Bo Nix threw a deep route toward the boundary intended for wide receiver Pat Bryant.
Although defensive back Josh Wallace managed to secure what appeared to be a decisive interception, officials instead penalized the defense for interference after Bryant exaggerated contact. The resulting field position allowed Denver to orchestrate a scoring drive, ultimately claiming a 30-26 triumph.
In a subsequent interview, Bryant admitted that he exaggerated the movement to secure the yellow flag.
Reflecting on the controversial sequence, Bryant explained that he felt a minor shove which hindered his path to the football, leading him to sell the reaction in order to draw the penalty. While critics across the league questioned the validity of the call, the wideout defended the outcome while noting that embellishing contact has become a prevalent tactic in professional football.
Thanks to the fortunate ruling, the squad maintained possession and successfully defended their narrow advantage through the remaining seconds of regulation.
