2026 NFL Week 2 injury panic meter: Myles Garrett, A.J. Brown, Sam Darnold sidelined with lower body issues

The Los Angeles Rams have shifted standout pass rusher Myles Garrett to injured reserve after he struggled through their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, who set an all-time record with 23.0 sacks in 2025, logged zero tackles across 39 defensive snaps, marking only his fourth career contest without a tackle and his first since Week 11 of the 2024 campaign.

Persistent knee swelling had already sidelined him for most of training camp, including a combined workout session with the Dallas Cowboys.

Garrett is now scheduled for knee surgery, keeping him out for a minimum of four matchups. Head coach Sean McVay explained that the franchise chose the surgical route after evaluating the defensive end's compromised movement, noting that a firm recovery timetable will emerge only following the procedure.

Garrett acknowledged that self-preservation and fear of worsening the issue hindered his performance on the field. The setback arrives as several other major stars, including New England Patriots receiver A.J.

Brown, face extended multi-week absences following the opening slate of the 2026 season.
