Yankees sweep Red Sox in embarrassing playoff showing in Wild Card round

Boston was eliminated from the postseason for the second consecutive year following a 9-2 defeat to the New York Yankees on Wednesday night, completing a two-game sweep in the American League Wild Card Series. Manager Chad Tracy faced scrutiny over his pitching changes after removing starter Sonny Gray in the fifth inning despite a strong performance.

The victory sends New York forward to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
