The National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Era Committee has unveiled its 2024 ballot, spotlighting eight candidates whose careers as managers, executives, or pioneers may finally earn them enshrinement. This year’s slate includes a mix of legendary figures, with two former Yankees deeply in the conversation: Lou Piniella and Bill White.
The committee, which rotates focus between different eras, is currently evaluating non-players, a group that has historically produced inductees like Joe Torre and Casey Stengel. The voting process involves 16 baseball luminaries—typically a blend of Hall of Famers, executives, and journalists—who must cast at least 12 votes for a nominee to secure election.
Each voter can select up to three candidates, limiting the number of potential inductees to three or fewer. Last year’s committee, for instance, elected only Jeff Kent, underscoring the competitive nature of the selection.
Failure to receive at least five votes risks a candidate’s eligibility for the next cycle, while four or fewer votes could lead to permanent exclusion—though past changes to the committee’s structure leave room for future adjustments.
