Wrexham defender Hyam's Scotland disappointment

Dom Hyam has expressed his sadness after being excluded from Sebastien Pocognoli's maiden 28-man Scotland selection for Nations League fixtures against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia. The 39-year-old Belgian tactician took over on a two-year contract in August to replace Steve Clarke following the 2026 World Cup, where Hyam remained on the bench throughout group matches against Haiti, Morocco, and Brazil.

Hyam, who possesses four international caps, confirmed he has yet to talk directly with the new national boss, maintaining that strong outings at club level remain his pathway back into contention.

At Wrexham, where Hyam serves as captain and has played in all eight matches this campaign, attention has turned to bouncing back from a stinging 6-0 thrashing by West Ham United—the heaviest defeat under manager Phil Parkinson since his 2021 arrival and the club's worst league reversal in 22 years since facing Bournemouth. Parkinson held post-match discussions with both Hyam and midfielder Matty James to reset focus ahead of welcoming Southampton to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

Wrexham presently occupy 19th position in the Championship with seven points from 21, whereas ninth-placed Southampton have accrued 10 points after receiving a four-point deduction related to the Spygate controversy prior to the season.
