Fast bowler Sonny Baker expressed his pride after claiming the young player of the year honor from the Professional Cricketers' Association. The twenty-three-year-old athlete enjoyed a breakout campaign that included capturing The Hundred title with the Manchester Super Giants, reaching T20 Blast Finals Day with his county, and earning his first Test cap against New Zealand.
He also delivered strong performances during limited-overs fixtures against Sri Lanka under coach Brendon McCullum, recording a spell of 3-12 during the opening match.
Baker becomes the first representative from Hampshire to receive the PCA young player accolade. Looking ahead to an upcoming schedule featuring matches against Pakistan, Australia, and South Africa, the fast bowler emphasized his focus on continuous personal development rather than looking too far down the road.
