Will Wade thrills LSU crowd with Lane Kiffin, NIL jokes as 2026-27 season gets set to begin

LSU basketball’s unofficial season opener on Thursday night will mark the return of second-year head coach Will Wade, who previously led the Tigers from 2017 to 2022 before his departure amid NCAA scrutiny. Wade, known for his sharp wit, kicked off his pre-season remarks at the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge with self-deprecating humor, referencing his past firing and the program’s recent controversies.

His jokes—including one about Lane Kiffin’s high-profile arrival and another play on NIL’s legal status—delighted the crowd, signaling a lighthearted but confident tone as Wade prepares to rebuild the program. The exhibition game against McNeese State at 6:30 PM will serve as the first public look at the roster, with fans eager to see how Wade’s experience and the Tigers’ new direction align after his previous stint ended under a cloud of NCAA allegations.
