Former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III has revealed that the University of Michigan once approached him to serve as a dedicated quarterback coach for Bryce Underwood, the team’s struggling signal-caller. Griffin, who turned down the offer to focus on his podcasting and YouTube career, emphasized that Michigan’s issues with Underwood stem from a deeper problem: the coaching staff’s failure to tailor the offense to the quarterback’s strengths.
Underwood’s recent performance—including a dismal 10-of-21 passing effort for 101 yards and two interceptions in a 20–14 loss to Minnesota—has intensified scrutiny, with calls to bench him growing louder. Despite Michigan’s $12 million investment in Underwood over four years, Griffin argues the program is forcing him into an unsustainable system rather than developing his natural abilities.
The Wolverines now face a critical decision: whether to adjust their approach or risk further decline after a 0–2 start in the Big Ten.
