Wilcox the target again in another damaging Man Utd falling-out

Jason Wilcox finds himself under scrutiny once more, this time after Lisandro Martinez publicly criticised the club’s technical director following United’s 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid. Martinez’s remarks, made in a post‑match interview with CBS’s Peter Schmeichel, accused the leadership of lacking ambition and warned that the squad was not competitive with other top teams.

The episode echoes a similar confrontation ten months earlier when Ruben Amorim’s angry press conference at Leeds led to Wilcox’s dismissal as director of football. Sources told BBC Sport that United’s summer signings – Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba – were insufficient, and insiders described the current situation at Old Trafford as “a mess”.

Martinez, whose contract expires at season’s end, may be using his outburst to influence renewal talks, while Michael Carrick is expected to face tougher questioning ahead of United’s trip to Leeds.
