Former India opener Virender Sehwag drew parallels between his own aggressive batting style and that of rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who at 15 has already made a bold impact in international cricket. Sooryavanshi, the youngest player to win the IPL Orange Cap in 2026, debuted for India during their England tour and later claimed Player of the Series in Zimbabwe, while also featuring in India’s gold-medal-winning Asian Games campaign in Japan.
Sehwag praised Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach—mirroring his own tendency to attack bowlers from the first ball—while emphasizing that performance, not age, should dictate opportunities at the highest level, noting that players like 37-year-old Virat Kohli and the teenage Sooryavanshi now compete side by side in the IPL and for Team India. Despite his early success, Sooryavanshi remains on the fringes of India’s current T20I squad, having been left out of the opening two matches against West Indies in favor of experienced openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, with the third fixture set to take place at Holkar Stadium today.
